Alan and Gordon were recommended by the screed manufacturer that was specified for our extension project. They completed a 40m2 area with 12m of flush door thresholds + UFH and manifold installation. The team were great to deal with and very professional from the initial enquiry to completion of the project. The team provided recommendations and technical advice throughout the quotation stage and were the only contractor to actually visit and survey the site prior to finalising the quote. During the works, the Alan and Gordon were brilliant, taking time and effort to run through the plan for the works and made sure all protection was in place. I found Gordon and Alan's company nextlevelufhs.co.uk via Google searching for 'Floor Leveling' and could not have got a better company to level my floors. Having watched some YouTube videos and then seeing Gordon and Alan setting up their laser and depth measuring equipment I knew I was getting very experienced professional tradesmen. My floor surfaces had been removed from the original concrete base prior to contacting them for a survey. This had left chisel gouges like the surface of the moon. The original concrete base was uneven with dips and highs. When the work was finished the floors were as flat as pancakes and level from front to back. A most desirable outcome. Screed floors tend to be slippery when wet if left untreated. Now, though, screeds are manufactured to some degree of slip resistance. Optional anti-slip coatings, textured finishes, or speciality sealants can be applied to floors if increased grip is required (for example, in wet areas like the bathroom).

Are you wondering how much does floor screeding cost? The cost depends on the type of screed, the size of your project and labour cost. The average prices are between £20 and £40 per square metre. If insulation is required or if specialist fast-drying or liquid screeds are employed to speed up completion, extra costs may occur.

While underfloor heating can technically be laid without screed, it is not recommended. Screed is a heat conductor so the warmth will be evenly spread across the floor, enhancing efficiency. If an underfloor heating system is laid without screed, heating will be uneven, which results in cold spots and inefficient use of energy, meaning that heating will be more expensive in the long term.

If screed is not installed correctly or dries too fast, it can crack. Cracks can also form when moisture is too high, due to structural movement, or when temperatures fluctuate.
